Meet Marjeri
Hello! I’m Marjeri (pronounced Marjorie)…co-founder of Living Beyond the Box, Wedding Coordinator, Mom, Libra, and aspiring World Traveller. I’ve often been called an Old Soul. I LIVE to eat, I like to organize everything in spreadsheets, and I get anxious when the house is messy. Most of all, I love to experience new things with my family…especially outdoors!
In the last 4 years, I have devoted myself to my children, Kingston (my critical thinker who can be a little serious at times but definitely has a silly side) & Kasia (my strong-willed and opinionated free spirit), and my husband, Herbie. (Yes, these are our real names. Who would have thought a Marjeri would find a Herbert to marry in this decade? Herbie and I met in 2000, when I was only 19 and the rest is history!) It wasn’t until recently that I started to get the urge to have something of my own. I really wanted to contribute to the family in some form and have a creative outlet without sacrificing the time that I spent with my family. So why not a blog? I can’t even be sure that anything we have to say is that interesting but I think that people will relate to our stories as the journey unfolds.
We are definitely a normal, everyday family – Husband, Wife, Son, Daughter & 2 Dogs – but we strive to make changes that will benefit our health, environment, and lives. To be honest, I wasn’t ever concerned about my health or what I ate until I became a mother. My beautiful children flipped the switch for my goal to be healthier…but not for myself. I realized that modeling good eating habits was the only way to teach them how to be healthier. We are proud to say that Kingston and Kasia are amazing fruit & vegetable eaters, love their green juice, and are willing to try just about anything (at least once). It wasn’t always this way. Kingston was the pickiest toddler and refused to eat anything that wasn’t breaded. It took a lot of patience and commitment to get him to change (more to come on dealing with picky eaters).
The past couple years, we’ve been more conscious about our carbon footprint. Again we want to be good examples for our kids by recycling, composting, and conserving water & electricity. Most recently, we’ve built a raised garden bed to harvest our own produce and started collecting rain water. In the future, we’d like to have a tilapia pond and a primarily edible landscape. Herbie is the driving force behind us becoming a greener and more sustainable home, he considers us to be urban homesteaders.
There is so much to say but I think I’ve already written too much for a bio. ha. Thank you for following Living Beyond the Box and being open-minded to new ideas. My goal is to Motivate, Document, and be Inspired.
